YOUTH CHRISTIAN FORMATION (6th - 12th Grade)
Youth Formation Class -
We invite all 6th-12th grade students to join us in a deeper dive of the Gospel text. During this time we learn the context of the passage; how to put scripture into our own words; and how to apply the lessons we learn in our daily lives. Youth Formation meets on Sunday mornings from
10:15-11:15am in the Youth Room.
Confirmation Class (begins 10/05/25) -
We invite our upperclassmen (10th-12th) disciples to join us as we embark on a journey to explore our Episcopalian faith and prepare for the sacrament of confirmation. This program will help candidates understand the gifts of the Holy Spirit, grow as disciples of Christ, and take on the responsibility of living a mature Christian life. We will meet from 10:15-11:15am in the Education Building.
EYC -
Episcopal Youth Community (EYC) is a great way to bond as a youth group; and grow in our Christian faith and maturity. Come join us for dinner, group games, worship, and fellowship! We meet every Sunday evening from 5:30-7:00pm in the Large Classroom.
DIOCESAN TRIPS
Large Episcopal Area Fellowship (LEAF) Event - Grace, Anderson
September 28th 4-6pm (6th-12th Grade)
All 6th-12th graders are welcome to join us for an afternoon of fun and fellowship with other churches. We will meet from 4-6pm and eat dinner, play games, and learn about some of the exciting offerings with the diocese this year.
Converge Retreat - St. Albans, Lexington
October 18-19 (6th-8th Grade)
Through games, small group activities, singing, worship, and community, middle schoolers get to reflect on a scriptural theme as they connect with others from around the diocese at a local parish. We finish the weekend with a Eucharist, reminding us that we are a worshipping people, 'converging' into joyful youth community.
Happening Retreat #93 - Camp Gravatt, Aiken
November 21-23 (10th-12th Grade)
Happening is a Christian experience presented by teenagers, for teenagers (with the help of clergy and lay adult leaders). To weekend is based on a series of tales delivered by youth and clergy to present the elements that define that catechism process and a mature profession of faith.
Children's Christian Formation (Pre-K-5th Grade)
Children's Formation Class -
In our children's class, we use stories, videos, and fun activities to examine and enter scripture. We explore each season's story and theme with discussion questions and crafts, while we build friendships and our relationship with God. Children's Formation meets every Sunday from 10:15-11:15am in the Large Classroom.
Nursery -
Christian Formation begins in the cradle. Parents volunteer their time, and alternate weeks shepherding our littlest ones. The nursery is open Sunday mornings during services, and for all weekday/night services.

Derek Langley
Derek has been here at St. Matthew's since August 2024. He is passionate about seeing people come to know Jesus in a way that transforms their lives and the lives of those around them. He enjoys playing music; being in nature; watching college football; and spending time with family and friends. As a self-proclaimed "talker", he is always open to going for a coffee or grabbing a bite to eat; feel free to reach out!
