  • Position Summary: 

    The Director for Christian Formation (DCF) designs, develops, directs, and

    evaluates a total congregational education program that supports the Prayer for Spiritual Growth of St Matthew’s Episcopal Church, “to preach, teach, heal and make disciples.” The DCF provides leadership to assist the congregation in building a solid foundation for Christian living, spirituality, ministry, and outreach, to accomplish the mission of the church at large, “to restore all people to God and each other through Christ” with a focus on young families and youth.


    Reporting Relationship: 

    This position reports to the Rector and works with and through the Senior Warden or Vestry member that serves as the Formation lead.


    Objectives:

     Create vibrant class offerings to enhance the spiritual growth of all parishioners and increase participation in Sunday morning Christian Formation (CF).

     Build intergenerational relationships with children, families, and individuals of the parish, promoting participation by adults, children and youth in worship, service, and leadership.

     Utilize the leadership of the church as a team in planning and implementing programs to create opportunities for members of all ages to serve God together.

     Working with the Communications Director design an outreach campaign to reach into the local community assuring the unchurched are invited to meet Jesus.


    Primary Responsibilities:

    1. Coordinate, communicate, budget, plan, recruit, support, and train leaders, as needed, for:

     Christian Formation (Godly Play, Sunday School, Confirmation Classes, and other curricula)

     Vacation Bible School

     Episcopal Youth Community (EYC)

     Youth Sunday and other seasonal events

     Diocesan and Episcopal Church opportunities

     Bible Studies and Small Groups

     Outreach Projects/Trips

     Fellowship Events and Retreats

    2. Develop relationships with young families and youth in the parish to integrate them into the ministries of St Matthew’s while maintaining an accurate database of same.

    3. Maintain a relationship with the Diocese and other resources to stay current in the newest trends in Formation.

    4. Attend staff meetings and other position related meetings as requested by the Rector.

    5. Communicate with the Vestry representative for Formation assuring they have updates on all Formation classes, special events, and other


    Competencies:

     Active member of a Christian congregation

     Education background; training and/or experience in theology, church history, scripture, program development, education, administration, management, and communications.

     Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).

     Two years teaching or Christian Formation experience, and one-year

    administrative experience.


    Requirements:

    Must have flexible hours to include weekends and evenings. Complete and renew, as required, SAFE Church training. Maintain appropriate boundaries with youth and colleagues. Pass all background screening.

  • SUMMARY

    St. Matthew’s Preschool is a well-established full day program seeking a highly qualified, energetic, and dedicated person to take over leadership. A successful candidate will assume full responsibility for operating and growing a safe, high-quality educational and nurturing environment for children ages infant to 5years, a First Steps 4K program and a unique outdoor learning environment. We seek a person with a passion for quality preschool education, who will work effectively with teaching staff and care deeply for the children in our care and their families.


    DUTIES

    Leadership in care of children and their families: manage and grow the enrollment of children ensuring all health and state requirements are met, establish supportive relationships with them and their families based on Christian principles, establish an environment of respect for cultural and developmental differences, create a safe environment for all, work with Spartanburg Quality Counts to provide an appropriate learning environment.


    Center Operations: Maintain the facility and the outdoor learning environment in compliance with SC licensing standards and St Matthew’s Church requirements, manage an annual budget and fee payments by enrolled students, ensure classrooms have adequate supplies and sanitation, oversee building repairs and improvements as needed with the support of the Preschool Board of Directors. Attend quarterly BOD meetings. Manage recruitment, fundraising, and marketing with the support of the Board and Church staff.


    Staff Administration: Supervise, schedule, and inspire staff to meet center needs and in accordance with SC requirements. Provide training and support as needed. Hiring additional staff as needed that fit our faith based, nurturing program.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Must meet SCDSS qualifications for a Center Director (CDA/Associates Degree or higher desired)

    Strong administrative skills

    Provide copy of transcripts for level of training

    Strong record keeping skills

    3 Letters of Recommendation


    NICE TO HAVES

    Experience working in a Faith Based Preschool program

    Familiarity with Spartanburg Quality Counts and First Steps 4K

    Experience with student recruitment

We require six months or more experience in a DSS licensed childcare program, and high school diploma or equivalent. Prefer 1 year experience, ECD 101 Certificate, plus early care and education course work.

    YOUTH LEADER: We are currently in search of an individual who is interested in leading spiritual formation for Youth (grades 6-12) in our church. We expect the candidate to have a growing, personal relationship with Christ, and a big heart for this age group. This individual should possess good communication skills, be able to work in coordination with our Christian Formation Committee, clergy and parents, along with having efficient organizational skills. The position is needed for Sunday evenings and would be a total of 15 - 20 hours per month.  A stipend of $ 300 monthly will be provided. Candidates will be required to complete a background check and be guided through our Safe Church Training modules.
