If it's not about love, it's not about God.

           --Presiding Bishop Michael Curry.

We at St. Matthew's are a diverse community of people who seek to move closer to God's will for our lives, always remembering that the God we believe in is not angry and punishing but rather loving and guiding.

We are part of The Episcopal Church, in communion with the Anglican church.  This worldwide communion of believers uses the Book of Common Prayer as the base of our services. You could go to any Anglican church in the world and feel at home.

We at St. Matthews strive to help the broader community, both here in Spartanburg and in several foreign countries. We have a weekly Food Pantry, a weekly free medical clinic, and a pre-school. We support ministries in Haiti, Ecuador, and other places where food, housing, education, and knowledge of God are sorely needed.

We all have questions and seek for answers. We welcome anyone who would like to join us in our quest.

And the food is really good.

We take Matthew 25: 35 - 36 to be our Gospel Imperative:

35 'For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat,

I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink,

I was a stranger and you invited me in,

36 I needed clothes and you clothed me,

I was sick and you looked after me,

I was in prison and you came to visit me.'
